The series of failures that are white supremacist John King‘s life have continued on their downward trajectory. His plan to get elected as school board president in order to save the children of Jasper from dangerous ideas like ‘tolerance’ and ‘multiculturalism’ was bound to fail even in one of the most conservative areas of the country. Even with a substantial right wing base to draw votes from, John King was defeated when Democrat Nancy Habig won the election in a landslide 83% victory.
While few of us at HARM are all that concerned with partisan politics, we can’t allow known fascists to obtain access to State power, especially at the local level. Fascists and other authoritarians are drawn to power like moths to flames. They are often found working for local government in positions ranging from County Republican Party Committee Members to police officers and prison gaurds. They have become fond of using the military to acquire military and weapons training.
John King obviously has no chance of an actual political career. There are however some questions about rural Indiana communities raised by his failure of a campaign. If we look at the voting records from Dubois County, we see that Republicans take an average of about 63% of the vote in every race. Regardless of her position as an incumbent, just by having an ‘(R)’ next to his name John King should have had every advantage in rural Southern Indiana. Of the 17% of the electorate that did vote for King, we must wonder how many were supportive of his white supremacist ideology and how many simply voted for him by default because of party loyalty, probably ignorant of his racist ideology and membership in groups like the American Third Position. When we consider the Golden Dawn‘s growing power after receiving just seven percent of the Greek vote, we should not be too hasty in dismissing any support given to fascists at the ballot box.
There were more votes in King’s race than any other school board election, so we can assume that when Republican voters were faced with an explicitly fascist Republican candidate they preferred to vote against the fascist and for a Democrat rather than simply not voting. That antifascist impulse needs to be nurtured and encouraged. Even more importantly, that energy needs to be moved outside the realm of electoral politics.
When I called Johnny today at (812)827-2289 posing as a reporter, I asked him if he thought his opponent’s landslide victory was due to the public’s negative view of his “white nationalist” ideology. Always the victim, King asserted his loss was due to his incumbent’s attachment to the local political power structure which he claimed ”runs the city of Jasper” in a manner he described as “almost like the mafia.” After a brief temper tantrum after being called a white supremacist, John was was offered congratulations on his epic fail of an election campaign from all of us at HARM.
With his political career is on its death bed, what’s next for John King? Unfortunately, a lot of these racist pigs turn their abuse and anger towards their families like Jeff Hail and JT Ready. We do worry about John King’s family with his history of aggressive outbursts and irrational behavior. His mental illness combined with the company he keeps within white supremacist and “Sovereign Citizen” groups makes one question how safe his children can actually be. We can only hope that if they are in danger, his wife and children will be able escape him safely. If they need it, they can call 911 and then call Crisis Connection transitional housing facility in Jasper, IN at 800-245-4580 if they don’t have family or friends they can rely upon.
Regardless, we’re planning on doing everything we can to make sure that Jasper residents are aware of John King’s history of white supremacist organizing and membership in violent hate groups. His ability to negatively effect the community relies greatly upon his ability to remain anonymous. We’re planning to flier and provide detailed information about John King to his neighborhood, his business associates, and members of his church. We’ll also be talking to the Veteran’s Association and Social Security Administration whom we suspect will be interested in reading his thoughts on his mental illness.
Feel free to give Johnny Boy a call to congratulate him on his epic fail.
